Mumbai Police all set for Ganesh Chaturthi

Even as Mumbaikars prepare to welcome their favourite deity this year, the Mumbai Police is busy preparing a road-map for 10-day of Ganeshotsav starting September 5.

In a joint press conference addressed by the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Milind Bharambe and Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Deven Bharti assured Mumbaikars about adequate presence of uniform personnel in the city during the 10-day festival.

"We have cancelled leaves of the policemen and around 50, 000 plus policemen will be deployed on bandobast duty starting from September 5. The Mumbai Police will also be having extra deployment from other arms of the police like Quick Response Team, Rapid Acion Force, State Reserve Police Force for security in the city." said Jt Commissioner of Police (L and O) Deven Bharti. He further added "We will also be assisted by volunteers from National Cadet Corps, Scout and Guide, and other NGO's members."

The Mumbai Police at all the police stations have asked their men to gather intelligence on any suspicious activities. "There is no specific terror alert but we are not taking any chances and have already have started collecting intelligence," said Bharti.

The Mumbai Police apart from the security aspect have also ensured that the registration and permissions for the sarvajanik Ganesh pandals in the city, went in a smoother manner. "We have ensured that there are no problem for the Ganesh pandals and hence there was a single window system that was created at ward-level which took care of all the permissions," said Bharti. The city of Mumbai this year will have 6,341 sarvajanik Ganesh pandals,1,20,753 home Ganesh idols and 8,946 Gauri idols. This year, there is an increase of two per cent of Ganesh pandals.

At five places in the city drone cameras will be used are Malavni, Powai, Girgaum, Juhu and Dadar chowpatty and there are six thousand cameras that will be put up. Besides this, the police has declared 45 sensitive places.
