It seems the simmering resentment of Ola and Uber drivers will continue. Sources have said that depending on the outcome of the meeting of cab aggregators on November 15, the drivers may shut vehicles on November 18-19. They may also protest in front of government offices.

Drivers working for Ola and Uber had been on strike for 12 days starting October 22. On November 3, after last moment talks and assurances from the aggregators and the state government, the strike was called off.

On the evening of November 12, members from Maharashtra Rajya Rashtriya Kamgar Sangh (MRRKS) — representing the drivers of Ola and Uber — held an internal meeting chaired by NCP leader Sachin Ahir.

"We will be having a meeting with Uber and Ola authorities on November 15. Depending on whether the administration accepts our demands or not, will we decide whether or not to go on protest outside Mantralaya and Vidhan Sabha," said Sunil Borkar, secretary, Maharashtra Rajya Rashtriya Kamgar Sangh, a union of app-based cab drivers.

Demands of the drivers include fare hike, waiting charges, removing names of blacklisted drivers among other things. The union members said if the talks fail then they will ask the drivers to shut their vehicles from midnight of November 17-18 and protest till November 19.

The drivers claim that despite the 11-day long strike, the companies have not done much apart from giving a few incentives. For instance, the aggregators have given incentives starting November 12 till night of November 15. Here, the drivers can earn upto Rs 29,000 depending on the number of hours they work.

Last month, during the protest, more than 95 per cent of Uber and Ola vehicles were off roads. Protests were held outside Ola and Uber offices. Industry experts claim that the demands are such that they will impact users. They say the existing fares are slightly less or equal to what is being demanded. The unions had demanded Rs 18, Rs 20 and Rs 23, respectively while the existing rates are Rs 12, Rs 15 and Rs 19 per km depending on the vehicle.
