Mumbai: Minor raped by 45-year-old man; accused arrested

NM Joshi Marg police in Mumbai on Saturday arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly violating her four-year-old neighbour.

According to the police, the victim resides with her parents in a ground floor flat of residential building at Senapati Bapat Marg, while the arrested suspect, an electrician by profession, stays on the first floor.

"The victim used to visit for her tuition classes in one of the flats on the first floor. On Saturday evening after finishing her tuition classes while the victim was on her way home, the suspect induced her to enter his flat on the pretext of giving her toys. An unsuspecting victim went inside the flat after which the accused violated her, while his wife was away at work," said an officer from NM Joshi Marg police station.

He added, on returning home the victim informed her mother about the incident. Shocked mother then approached the police. The police then registered a case against the suspect and arrested him later in the day.

The accused has been booked for rape under relevant sections of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Indian Penal Code. He was produced before a court on Sunday and was remanded to police custody till July 13.
