Mumbai: Man accused of raping actress, booked in Rs 19 crore cheating case

It is alleged that the duo had duped a British national to the tune of Rs 19 crore on the pretext of helping him to set up a business in India.

City crime branch sleuths on Tuesday arrested a man along with his accomplice, in a cheating case, who was already accused of rape by a well-known actress from 70s. It is alleged that the duo had duped a British national to the tune of Rs 19 crore on the pretext of helping him to set up a business in India.

Those arrested are Mohammad Sarfaraz Ehsaan alias Amar Anoop Khanna (39) and his accomplice Kishore Nathani (54). Sarafaz was earlier booked in a rape case registered by a senior citizen yesteryear actress.

According to the police, Indian origin British national Amarjeet Singh Ubhi (69) had been staying in Britain since the last 21 years. Ubhi had been working as a distributor of a product of a British company. In 1998, the said company decided to carry out business in India and had given the said responsibility to Ubhi.

Following this, Ubhi came to stay in India in 1998. In the year 2000, Ubhi had set up the said company's office at Santacruz after obtaining all the required licenses, police said.

"During that time, Ubhi came in touch with Sarfaraz and Nathani. It is alleged that the duo had taken around Rs 19.22 crore from Ubhi on different occasions on the pretext of setting up his company's offices and increase its business in different parts of the country," said a crime branch officer.

He added, after having realized that the duo had duped him, Ubhi had lodged a case of cheating against the duo at Bandra police station on January 15.
