Tejashree Vaidya, a 23-year-old girl who was critically injured after falling off a local train, has been discharged from the hospital after undergoing intensive care treatment for five months.

Vaidya had fallen into a nallah between Matunga and Sion stations earlier this year, while she was on her way to give an exam at KC College. She was first admitted to Sion Hospital, and was later shifted to a private hospital. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) police had recovered her body an entire hour after the accident, when women informed about the incident to them.

She was then diagnosed with Traumatic and Hypoxic Brain Injury, and doctors decided to administer Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT).

"HBOT is a non-invasive medical treatment that improves the normal healing process of the body by inhalation of 100 percent oxygen at an increased atmosphere pressure. This allows oxygen to dissolve in the fluid component of the body, helping bring down brain swelling. Considering Tejashree's condition, we decided to administer HBOT," Dr Amit Nabar, head of Accident & Emergency, Hyperbaric Medicine, SL Raheja Hospital, said.
