While the good news is that monsoons are still in an active phase in the city and not likely to recede anytime soon, the bad news is that the heat, which seems to have gripped Mumbai is likely to continue for a couple of days.

On Monday, Santacruz recorded a maximum temperature of 35.5 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature recorded at Colaba was 33.4 degree Celsius. "Easterly winds over Central India have the temperatures rising in the city. Due to the easterly, sea breeze sets in late, spiking temperatures," informed KS Hosalikar, Deputy Director General (western region) India Meteorological Department (IMD).

He also said that the haze-like effect seen at several places in Mumbai was due to rise in temperatures and dust pollution. Several parts of the city including Mazgaon, Chembur and Navi Mumbai had poor air quality with high PM2.5 levels.

Meanwhile, as per Skymet Weather, rains are much likely to make a comeback, as a cyclonic circulation has developed over southwest Madhya Pradesh and a trough is extending from this system to Kerala across Madhya Maharashtra. This may bring light scattered rains for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, the offshore trough running from South Gujarat to coastal Karnataka is likely to become active and may cause moderate rain on September 13 through 14.
