Mumbai cyber cell launches probe into minister Vinod Tawde's complaint

A message was circulated on WhatsApp since Saturday which stated that a minor girl was raped by a canteen attendant inside the school premises in Dadar on Friday night after the annual day function of the school.

The Mumbai cyber cell police station on Tuesday have launched an investigation into the complaint made by educational minister, Vinod Tawde, in connection with a WhatsApp message being circulated to defame him.

A message was circulated on WhatsApp since Saturday which stated that a minor girl was raped by a canteen attendant inside the school premises in Dadar on Friday night after the annual day function of the school. However, in spite of such a cruel act done inside the school premises, the prize distribution event organised by the school was not called off by the school authorities. The chief guest at the event were education minister Vinod Tawde and member of legislative assembly (MLA) Sada Sarvankar. The message also further stated that in spite of heavy police presence outside the school building the authorities went ahead with the programme.

The minister, in his complaint to the cyber cell police station, stated that he was equally shocked with the atrocities that was committed on the minor and have already ordered an inquiry into the matter. Tawde in his complaint said that he was never personally present for the event organised by the school, moreover, after the incident, authorities of the school had cancelled the event on the next day hence, there was no truth in the message that was circulated. Tawde also alleged that someone is deliberately trying malign the image of the government by spreading such rumours. Tawde in his complaint has asked the Mumbai police to investigate and find out who had created this message and circulated on WhatsApp.

When Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) K M M Prasanna was contacted he said " We have received a complaint from the minister and the Cyber Crime police station is looking into it". He added further "We will find out from where the message originated and take necessary actions".
