According to Dyaneshwar Chavan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 2, “The deceased lived alone in the house. The family has a barber shop in the vicinity. Every day in the evening, Iqbal visited the shop. However, on Saturday evening, he did not visit the shop. His grandson Salman gave him several calls, all went unattended. Hence, Salman and a co-worker went to the house. The house was locked. They opened the door with the keys and found him lying on the floor with his hands and legs tied. The fan, lights and the television were on. His mouth was stuffed with a cloth and he had bruises on the body. The duo then called the main control room at 6:40 pm. The body was then sent for post-mortem. We are awaiting the reports.”

Chavan added, “The accused looks familiar to the person and we are already on the lookout. We are also doing a panchnama of the house to see if something was stolen from the house. We are interrogating the neighbours and looking at CCTV footage."
