In order to lure young corporate executives with big spending power, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has set up a tourism pavilion in Infosys campus, Hingewadi in Pune, which has over 40,000 IT employees. The pavilion will organise one-to-two-day short trips during the weekends and long vacations, apart from other services offered by the MTDC, on a concessional basis.

The MTDC is contemplating a similar initiative with several companies in Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur and other large cities that have such large commercial parks.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday inaugurated the pavilion in Pune in presence of other state leaders and bureaucrats. According to MTDC officials, the state tourism department wants to target the young professionals who are more likely to travel and also have the spending capacity.

Commenting on the initiative, MD of MTDC Paraag Jaiin Nainuttia said, "The average age of Infosys employees is around 25 and they have a good spending capacity. Sixty per cent employees are not from Maharashtra. We found an opportunity to introduce them to the state. Our aim is to provide them the best tourism facilities. MTDC has already invested around Rs25 lakh to set up the infrastructure for tourism pavilion."

According to an estimate, around 40,000 IT employees work on this campus. They will also be offered special heritage tours, air tickets, train tickets, passport and visa facilities, adventure tours, all kinds of travel kits, a travel lounge area, a unique selfie point and an experience to wear various Maharashtrian traditional costumes.

"With our leading tourism partners we can provide bookings for amusement parks, hot-air balloon rides, MTDC's Asia's first scuba diving institute (PADI), jungle safaris, the luxury heritage train Deccan Odyssey, helicopter rides in Mumbai and the opportunity to experience colourful festivals like Ganeshotsav, Gokulashtami, Holi and Wari as per their destinations," said Valsa Nair Singh, principal secretary, tourism & cultural affairs, Maharashtra.
