Motor instructor murders wife, commits suicide in Kandivli

According to the police, Nitin Fundkar got married to Surekha (32), eight years ago and they were staying in Pathan Chawl in Kandivli (E) with their children Samiksha (7), and Yuvraj (5). While Nitin was working as a driving instructor in a motor training school, Surekha was a domestic worker.

In a horrific case, a 35-year-old man allegedly murdered his wife and then committed suicide at Kandivli in the wee hours of Monday. Daughter of the couple saw her mother being murdered, but she pretended to be asleep as she was too scared to raise an alarm. The incident came to light in the morning when the girl informed her relatives who stay close-by.

According to the police, Nitin Fundkar got married to Surekha (32), eight years ago and they were staying in Pathan Chawl in Kandivli (E) with their children Samiksha (7), and Yuvraj (5). While Nitin was working as a driving instructor in a motor training school, Surekha was a domestic worker.

"Nitin used to always suspect on Surekha's character and believed that she was having an illicit affairs at work. This would often result in regular quarrels and fights between the couple. Nitin would often come home inebriated state and assault his wife," said a police officer.

On Monday night too, the couple got into a fight about a similar topic, while the kids were at home. The fight became ugly and the couple started verbally abusing each other. The house was locked from inside and the kids were told to go to sleep on the upper bunk of the bed. During the argument, Surekha threatened to leave home and go sleep at a relative's house, and Nitin subsequently convinced her to stay.

"Nitin, under a fit of rage, tried to strangulate Surekha. Samiksha, who was awake, saw her father choking her mother, got scared, and pretended to be asleep to avoid her father's thrashing. Failing to kill her by strangulation, Nitin slit her throat using the kitchen knife and later hanged himself from the beam of the roof using a saree." said Dilip Yadav, senior police inspector from Samta Nagar police station.

The children were extremely frightened and in the morning they went to a relative's house who lived in the same vicinity. After hearing the facts narrated to her, the relative verified the same with the neighbours and visited the scene, following which they called the police. The police did not find any suicide note at the scene. The bodies were sent to Shatabdi hospital where they were officially pronounced dead.

The police have registered a case of murder and wrongful confinement against Nitin. Further investigation on the same is on. The custody of the kids have been given to a relative, police said.
