Claiming that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its affiliated outfits are threatening to put a stop to the Maratha agitation, umbrella organisations of the Maratha Sakal Samaj has decided to launch the Thiya Andolan from Thursday in from of the residences and offices of the state ministers, members of Parliament and MLAs.

The Andolan will be organised across Maharashtra to press their demands of Maratha reservations. Social media convener of Maratha Kranti Morcha, Bhaiya Patil said the community's Jail Bharo Andolan on Wednesday received a mixed response for various reasons.

"We are mobilising the community, and requesting the people to start the Thiya Andholan in front of the ruling party ministers', MPs' and MLAs' houses. The elected representatives should realise the importance of the community's demands. On Thursday, the Thiya Andholan will start across Maharashtra."

Patil said the BJP is trying to crush the agitation by forging criminal cases against the Maratha agitators. "We are also receiving threatening phone calls from local goons who are patronised by the BJP and its affiliated outfits. They are asking us to stop the agitations or otherwise be ready for dire consequences. But we are not going to succumb to the police force and the state's goons. The agitations will continue till our demands are not met."

Pravin Gaikwad, former Sambhaji Brigade president, and Maratha community leader said chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and his minister Chandrakant Patil are putting fuel to fire with baseless statements rather than using peaceful means to end the agitations. "Their statements are provoking the Maratha youth. Their simmering anger will continue until a concrete plan for Maratha reservations is not put forth. The CM tried to use some BJP patronised Maratha leaders to end the agitations but they failed. People can easily read the between the lines now. And the Marathas who are meeting the CM without yielding any concrete result are losing their credibility in the community. I, too, received invitations from the emissary of the CM but refused because the CM's words have no value," Gaikwad said.

Maratha leader and a petitioner in Bombay high court, Vinod Patil said, "We understand that the backward commission will take his own time to file the report. After that, a special Assembly session will be called where the Maratha Reservations Bill will be passed. Now, CM should declare in writing how the procedure will move step by step. And everything should be transparent and all meetings with Maratha reservations should be telecasted live," Patil said.

A police officer said, "Today at 11 am, Kedar Suryavanshi, organiser of Maratha Kranti Morcha had called for a Jail Bharo at Azad Maidan. 26 people were taken into custody during the protest and were later let off after being warned to maintain peace."
