A group of East Indian organisations in city are toeing with an idea of contesting elections this year. Around 16 organisations and associations associated with the community in scattered around the city are looking to come together for the idea.
"We are looking to contest around 10 seats just to tell people about our presence. While it is an East Indian initiative, we would largely be looking at the population that resides in gaonthans of the city," said Godfrey Pimetna, convenor of the organisation that is yet to name itself.
The reason of coming together for the elections, said those toeing with the idea said was the frustration with the way native land is being developed without any planned approach.
"The sons of soil of Bombay, the East Indian Community along with the other concerned citizen groups have decided to launch their own political initiative....The post of Candidature and Area representatives will be open to all irrespective of caste, creed or religion..." stated a press release issued by them.
