Hawkers of Linking Road will be taking out a rally in protest of what they called was "illegal demolition drive" conducted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) with police help. They informed about the same in a press conference that was chaired by Aam Aadmi Party convenor, Preeti Sharma Menon, Bandra resident and activist Aftab Siddiqui and members of the stall owners federation.

"We will be having a protest from Santacruz police station to the DCP office on Wednesday. The idea is to highlight the injustice meted out. There is a stay on the demolitions, despite that we have been harassed," said Faisal Qureshi, president of the Linking Road Stall Owners Welfare Association (LRSOWA), a group that represented 167 licensed stall owners opposite National College and around the area.

"On Monday we will have a protest up to Matoshree. We are hopeful that we may get an appointment," said Aftab Siddiqui, resident Linking Road who was backing the stall owners.

"They have been having peaceful agitation for the past two week outside Khar police station but not one has been listening to them. They have kept their shops shut in protest," added Siddiqui.

Hitting out at the BMC and elected representatives of the H/West ward, Menon said, "There is not even a plan that is sanctioned for which they want to remove them. If anyone has to be removed, it should be in writing with a detailed plan. The ward officer is saying that they will give them space on the road while at the same time they also want the traffic to be streamlined. If they are on road how will the traffic flow improve? BMC will then say that they block traffic and hence should be moved out. The ward officer has been saying that they be moved out on his words that they will be rehabilitated. There is nothing that he is giving in writing."
