The impact of the confrontation between Left and Right groups in Delhi's Ramjas College will be felt across the city's college campuses.

Two days after the ABVP's Mumbai unit came out in support of their counterparts in Delhi at Mumbai University's Kalina campus, more than 200 students belonging to Leftist groups are expected to join a protest in Dadar on Monday evening to condemn the attack. the ABVP is facing flak over the violence in Delhi University affiliated Ramjas College.

City representatives from a few prominent national students' unions, including the Student Federation of India (SFI), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and All India Students Association (AISA), will be part of the protest. "All Left student groups condemn the attack on students in Delhi's Ramjas College. In the last few months, the attacks on groups with progressive leanings have become common. Violence in most cases is also supported by the state machinery, including the police," said Rameshwar Shere, SFI's Mumbai district president.

Members of the ABVP's city unit alleged that Left student group members shouted anti-national slogans. "We condemn anti-national propaganda and will create awareness about the issue in the city's educational institutes," said Rohit Chandode, Mumbai secretary of ABVP.

Shere said a large contingent of students from prominent institutes like Mumbai University, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and IIT Bombay, will congregate at 7.30 pm outside Dadar station. "We have two major demands. While the immediate demand is to ensure that action is taken against the goons who perpetrated violence against students in Delhi, and later in Pune on Friday, when a few ABVP students tried to beat up our students as they condemned the violence in Delhi. Our main demand is to ensure campuses are violence-free to safeguard the interests of students," added Shere.

Ajmal Khan, a research scholar from TISS, who plans to join the protest, said the coming together of progressive unions was the need of the hour to condemn ABVP's actions. "Students across campuses in the country are harassed for voicing their opinions. This should stop," said Khan.
