More than 20 senior fire officers threatened to resign one of their colleagues was arrested in the Kamala Mills Fire incident, prompting the Mumbai Fire Brigade to announce that there will soon be a separate Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) the Fire Safety and Compliance Cell.

The SOP is expected to be ready by Thursday, June 25.

The fire officers were unhappy with the action taken against two fire officers in the Kamala Mills fire. "No-Objection Certificates are given 'with conditions' and it is the civic ward office's responsibility to keep an eye on owners and ensure that the norms are followed. Fire officers cannot be held accountable," said SK Sawant, Secretary of Mumbai Fire Brigade Officers' Association.

Chief Fire Officer PS Rahangdale denied any threat of mass resignation. "The officers had doubts on operations of the compliance cell. I met them and clarified how the work will ensure fire safety."
