Two days after this paper reported that Zishan Ali Khan, a 22-year-old MBA graduate, was denied a job on the basis of his religion, he stated that the issue should not be made political. A day after filing a first information report (FIR) against the discrimination which grossly violates the Constitution, Zishan told dna that he has received a steady stream of political representatives offering him either a job or some help in fighting the case. He refused to get into the details.

"As of now, all I want to say is that this issue should not be politicised. It is being played up for politics by everyone. We have had local political party representatives belonging to all parties come home and offer different kinds of help," said Khan.

He added, "While those from BJP and Sena have offered a job, some from Congress and NCP have offered to help me fight the case. Some others have suggested other things."

While Khan said that the issue not be exploited for votes, a group of political party representatives belonging to the Indian Union Muslim League was planning to hold a press conference to offer jobs to competent 'non-Muslims'.

The police, meanwhile, transferred the case registered at the VB Nagar police station to the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) police, because the firm which denied Khan the job, Hari Krishna Pvt Ltd, is based in BKC.

Khan's application to the export firm was turned down, with the firm's human resources department citing that they "they hire only non-Muslims". Khan, who lives in Kurla, had applied for a job along with his friends after completing his final semester exams for his MBA on May 12.
