The Goregaon police is on the lookout for a hi-tech 'thief' after a diamond necklace worth Rs 3,12,500 went missing from the electronic safety locker of a house. Police allege that this thief entered the residence on the 17th floor and managed to crack the code of the electronic locker and decamped with the valuable.

According to police, Rita Jagjivan, 45, a seventeenth floor resident of posh Angelica Mahindra Eminente building complained to them that an unidentified person stole a diamond necklace from the electronic locker between December 5 last year till January 23. Rita had kept the diamond necklace inside the electronic locker after she wore it last at an event. When she opened the electronic safety locker she was shocked to find it missing from the locker and her house.

The family has three maidservants and police are suspecting that this hi-tech thief could be one of them.

"The remaining jewelry is intact inside the locker and only the diamond necklace is missing which the complainant claims to have been stolen. We have registered a case under section 380 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code.", said Dhanaji Nalawade, Senior Police Inspector, Goregaon police station.

"We are questioning few people in this regard and are investigating the case further through all angles.", added Nalawade.
