Four teenagers were arrested for kidnapping their neighbour’s three-year-old boy and demanding a ransom of Rs2 lakh. Based on the call records of the four, the Nallasopara police laid a trap and arrested the kidnappers. The child was rescued from an ashramshala in Pen.

Deep Nandlal Pandey, 3, went missing from their residence at Santosh Bhuvan, Nallasopara (East) and a missing complaint was registered with the Nallasopara police.

The police said Avinash Dube, 19, and Manish Mishra, 19,  lured the child with chocolates and kidnapped him. Then the duo took him to Malvani and kept him at the residence of Amarjeet Sharma,19, a panipuri vendor. The accused even pretended to search the three-year-old along with his parents.

Sensing trouble after a complaint was registered with the police, they abandoned the kid at Pen railway station on their way to Ernakulam. After 12 days they made a ransom call to the child’s parents demanding Rs2 lakh as ransom though the child was not with them.

The police arrested one of their accomplice, Raju Shah (19), who came to collect the ransom money. After the accused abandoned the child in Pen, passersby rescued him and handed over to the police. The boy was then sent to an ashramshala.

The four have been remanded in police custody till April 23.
