"The family was commuting towards Mumbai from Nashik after meeting their relatives. Amit, who was driving the car, hit a divider and collided with an tempo coming from the opposite direction," said an officer from Narpoli police.
Four persons were killed after the driver of the car they were travelling in crashed into an approaching tempo near Bhiwandi.
The deceased have been identified as Vasant Arjun Kedare (63), his sons Sachin (31) and Amit (35), and daughter-in-law Sumita (30). They were on their way home in Bhandup when their car, an Maruti Esteem (MH 02 NA 4348) hit a road divider on Bhiwandi-Nashik road near Diva village and crashed into a tempo (MH 04 GF 9398) driven by Vimlesh Pal (23). The tempo was going towards Nashik.
While two died on the spot, the other two were rushed to Thane civil hospital with severe injuries, but they were declared dead during treatment. Later, the kin of the deceased were informed. Post mortem reports revealed injures on vital organs.

"We have registered a case under section 304 (A) (causing death due to negligence), 279 (rash driving) and 437 (mischief causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code against the driver of the car," said K Kature, investigating officer, Narpoli police station.
"Two of the injured were rushed to Thane civil hospital but they too succumbed to injuries. The tempo driver and the cleaner too suffered minor injuries but are out of danger," added Kature.
The vehicle that the deceased were travelling in has been mangled beyond recognition, said the police. The police are investigating the case further.
