Mahek Vinay Singh, a resident of Pratapgad district in Uttar Pradesh, has been undergoing treatment for bone cancer at the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH) for the past one year. Before returning home, and after completion of her treatment, Mahek expressed her wish to be a police officer.
The doctors of TMH got in touch with NGO Make-A-Wish Foundation, and informed them of the young patient's wish.
Deepak Bhatia, who works with the NGO, said that the foundation has been working with Tata hospital for the past 12 years, and decided to fulfill Mahek's wish after the doctors contacted them. He added: "Accordingly, the Bhoiwada police was contacted, who readily agreed to put a smile on the child's face, before she returns home."
On Friday at around 11.45 am, dressed in a khaki police uniform and a cap, Mahek walked into the Bhoiwada police station, where she was warmly greeted by the senior police inspector Sunil Tondwalkar. Mahek was taken inside the sr PI's cabin and was allowed to sit in his chair.
Mahek, who was overjoyed to be playing the role of a police officer, said: "When I grow up, I want to be a police officer so that I can arrest all the goons and make our country crime free." After spending some time in sr PI Tondwalkar's cabin, Mahek walked around the police station and interacted with other officers there.
Sr PI Tondwalkar said that the officers were happy to have been part of Mahek's experience, and pleased that the girl will return home a happy child. He added: "I am really impressed that such a small child thinks about the nation and dreams of a crime-free society. I wish her a speedy recovery."
