A three-storey building, Tejas in Dadar, Hindu colony collapsed on Wednesday evening around 5.30 pm, leading to the death of one person. The building, which was being demolished by the owner, was located in Hindu Colony's lane 2. The building collapsed on two cars which were passing by. The deceased, who died on the spot, was a driver of an Ola cab.
A three-storeyed building in Hindu colony, Dadar collapsed on Wednesday evening, causing the death of one person. The building, Tejas located opposite lane 2 of Hindu colony, owned by Mahesh Gala, was being demolished for redevelopment. The victim, Sindhraj Gautam (25 years) was a driving an Ola cab when the building came crashing down on the car.
The mishap happened around 5.30 pm when an Ola cab, a Hyundai Xcent was taking a U-turn after dropping the customer in the small lane of Hindu colony and a Tavera car was halting behind to make way for the cab. The cab driver, Sindhraj Gautam was trying to take a turn for a couple of minutes, when suddenly, the building alongside collapsed. The Ola cab got crushed fully, claiming the life of the driver on the spot. The Tavera’s front bonnet was damaged, but its driver escaped without major injuries. The deceased was taken to Sion hospital.
The lanes in Hindu colony have many passer-bys in the evening hours. IES King George school is also located in Hindu colony and the lanes have many school children passing. Padma Sau, a resident of colony said, “The demolition work was going on since last few days. We could hear the hammers. But today evening there was a big sound and I could immediately guess that the same building might have fallen. All the residents rushed out and we saw that one car was under the debris”.
Pratik Jaggi, a 21-year-old student was the customer of the Ola cab which got crushed in building collapse. Pratik, a MBA course aspirant had booked the cab from his residence in Chembur for Hindu colony. He just got down from the Ola cab and walked a few meters when the building collapsed. Pratik was in shock for next few hours after teh mishap.
Speaking with DNA Pratik said, “I was in the same cab which I booked from Chembur. I had planned to do my preparations for MBA exam at my friend’s place (in Hindu colony). The driver dropped me and I started walking. Few moments later I heard a loud sound and turned back to see that the building has collapsed on the cab which had just dropped me”.
