A police team from Uttar Pradesh (UP), along with their Mumbai counterparts, rescued a 16-year-old girl from UP and arrested her 21-year-old kidnapper. After the kidnapping, the accused had called up the victim's parents and had threatened to set the entire family ablaze if they approached the police.

The arrested youth has been identified as Mohammad Aashiq Mohammad Shabbir Ansari alias Munna.

According to the police, the 45-year-old complainant is a farmer and resident of Behraich in UP. Her daughter studies in a school in Behraich. Ansari, too, is a native of the same village and stays in the Dana Bunder area of Dongri. Ansari is known to the victim's family since they belong to the same village.

"On March 2, the complainant's daughter had stepped out of her home to give exams and did not return home even till late in the evening. The family searched for her everywhere and then lodged a missing persons complaint at Jerwal Road police station in Behraich. Later, Ansari called up the victim's family and informed them that the victim was with him and that if the family approached the police, he would set the entire family on fire," said an officer from Dongri police station.

The UP police then got information that Ansari is in the Dongri area. They then took the help of the Dongri police, picked up Ansari from the Dana Bunder area and rescued the victim. "The UP police will soon conduct a medical examination of the victim and if the medical reports suggest that she was sexually abused, then sections of rape and Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act would be added in the case," the officer said.
