Cops initiate inquiry into building collapse at Mumbai's Kamathipura

Eight fire engines and three ambulances rushed to the spot and were trying to rescue the people trapped under the debris. The building was under repair and nobody was residing in it.

The Nagpada police have initiated an inquiry into the collapse of a building at Kamathipura on Saturday afternoon. Six persons were killed and three were left critically injured in the collapse.

"We will conduct an inquiry and based on the inquiry report we will register a case. We would also record statements of the victims to ascertain what had actually happened. We will have to check if there was negligence on anyone's part," said deputy commissioner of police, Zone III. S Jayakumar.

Around 2pm, a ground-plus-three storied Gulmohar building collapsed in Kamathipura on Saturday afternoon. The building was a 100-year-old structure. Those killed in the collapse were Jabaaz Mulla, 30, Sarfull Mulla, 28, Angad Chowbe, 45, Wasim Mulla, 14 who died at JJ Hospital and Sheiful Sheikh, 39 and an unidentified women,55 were bought dead at Nair Hospital.
