With close to two lakh papers from the Commerce stream pending for evaluation, the largest junk of results at the Mumbai University, may be delayed until the end of this month. With non-instructional days over, the number of papers assessed everyday is going down drastically, and MU officials are now worried about the situation.

Until Saturday evening, close to two lakh papers from a total 8,34,439 from the Commerce stream were yet to be evaluated. A total of 2,13,166 students appeared under various courses under the Commerce stream, making for over 44 per cent of the total students this year.

As per the present status, it appears a large number of students may have to wait till the end of August for their results.

"While results of most other streams are likely to come out in the next 4-5 days, Commerce results may be delayed as a large number of answer sheets from the stream are yet to be evaluated. With non-instructional days over, teachers are assessing fewer papers, thus slowing down the process," said an MU official.

Siddheshwar Gadade, Dean, Commerce at MU, said that the university is appealing for more teachers to come for assessments from Monday and aims to finish them by the end of the week.

"While the initial rate of assessment was high, the figure has seen a drop as teachers are busy with college work. We have appealed to all the principals and authorities to relieve teachers for assessment for the next one week," Gadade said.

Meanwhile, the Bombay University College Teachers' Union (BUCTU) has planned a signature campaign against the result delay at MU's Fort campus on Tuesday.
