Borivli's JBCN international school has expelled 25 children of grade I and II due to non-payment of school fees. However, parents have alleged that their children were asked to pay more fees compared to their classmates, which is unfair.

On Tuesday, while the parents protested the school's decision of charging non-pioneer parents Rs1,17,000 for the 2014 academic year, the school sent the leaving certificate to 25 children by post.

Non-pioneer parents are those who came for their wards' admission late. According to the affected parents, the school asked them to pay Rs1,17,000 whereas pioneer parents were paying just Rs68,000.

BD Phadtare, deputy director of school education department, said, "This is violation of the Right to Education rule. No child can be expelled from school until completion of elementary education till grade eight. We have asked school to take back the children. Our officers have been given freedom to take action."

BD Puri, education inspector of Western Zone, said, "The school has been asked to take back the children and the parents have been informed informed to pay the fees. Their late fees will be waived off on request of the education minister to management of school, but first they need to pay. We cannot interfere in the pioneer and non-pioneer matter of the school as they have commitment towards the parents who took admission first."

A spokesperson of the school said: "The management has maintained this for the past eight months. Fee formalities must be completed and as long as parents agree to abide by school's rules, regulations and policies and complete their applicable fee formalities, we will welcome them. We have always said this and continue to ?maintain this. We have always kept the child's interest at heart."
