The vigilance squad of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recently raided a commercial unit at Chembur and seized 281 LPG cylinders that were illegally stored there. The police have arrested the man who had stored the cylinders.

Civic officials said that the vigilance squad staff, acting on a tip-off, raided the premises of one Rajendra Suresh Sansare, proprietor of A. R. Enterprises at Mukti Nagar in Chembur on December 17.

"Rajendra Sansare was found keeping 224 LPG gas cylinders and 57 fluorine gas cylinders totally valued at Rs.4.22 lakh without a license. Thus, Sansare was found violating the norms of Mumbai Municipal Act," said a BMC official.

The civic officials filed a police case against Sansare with the Govandi police station. He was arrested, officials said.

"Sansare was produced before a local court and has been granted bail," said an officer from Govandi police station.
