BMC engineers came together to brighten the Diwali of widows of firemen from the Mumbai Fire Brigade. They gave up a day's salary and collected around Rs2,61,111 for widows of firemen who lost their lives in the line duty during Kalbadevi's Gokul Nivas fire in May this year.

Four senior firemen including chief fire officer Sunil Nesarikar had died fighting the Kalbadevi blaze. "This is a small gesture on the part of engineers. Firemen gave up their life for us, so it was only apt that we give something back," said Sainath Rajadhyaksha of the BMC Engineers Union.
