The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Wednesday arrested a police sub-inspector (PSI) and another person for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe from the wife of an arrested person to help her husband getting bail.

According to the police, the complainant's husband was arrested by the Arnala Sagari police station in a cheating and threatening case last year. The case was being investigated by PSI Hemant Katkar. In order to allegedly help the complainant in securing bail in the case, Katkar had allegedly demanded bribe of Rs3 lakh from her.

"Since the victim didn't want to pay bribe to the officer, she decided to approach the ACB. The complainant then lodged a complaint with the ACB on Wednesday in this regard," said an ACB official. He added that Katkar had allegedly taken Rs1 lakh from the complainant and had given it to a person named Anil Suvarna. Both Katkar and Suvarna were arrested in the trap.

A case has been registered with the Arnala Sagari police station in Virar (W) in this regard and further investigation is being conducted by the ACB.
