Two traffic policemen on duty at Lower Parel junction on Tuesday night, chased and caught a chain-snatcher, who had robbed a gold chain from a 16-year-old girl.
Constable Mahesh Shinde said he and his colleague, Nitin Shinde, were manning traffic outside Curry Road station. “Around 7.45pm, I heard the girl, Harshali Parab, and her sister, Snehal, scream for help. I also saw a man sprinting ahead of them. We chased him and, after a brief chase, nabbed him,” said Shinde, adding that they recovered the 15gm gold chain.
“The chain-snatcher has been identified as 25-year-old Shankar Yadav, a resident of Worli slum colony. He has been charged with robbery under the Indian Penal Code,” said Sudhakar Ghagre, senior inspector of NM Joshi Marg police station.
“Constables Mahesh Shinde and Nitin Shinde will be rewarded for this good job,” said Vivek Phansalkar, joint commissioner of police (traffic).
