In our last issue, we highlighted the pathetic condition wherein incessant dumping near D’Monte Road had become a bane for the neighbourhood. The alarming level of garbage had led to the breeding of rats and mosquitoes, creating unhealthy living conditions for the residents around the park, with two cases of dengue already being reported.
After the article was published, H/West ward’s Solid Waste Management sprung into action and got the entire area cleaned up. Chandrakant Tambe, Junior Overseer, H/West ward, shared, “We conducted a massive cleanup drive in this area and got several members of the department to clean up the entire stretch which had a lot of garbage. After completing the clean-up, I also conducted sessions with the residents, telling them that the garbage has to be dumped only in the bins. This was followed by fumigation of the entire area.”
Sidney Gomes, a resident of the area, said, “I visited the place and some portion of it has been cleaned by Tambe and his team. However, there is still some work to be done there, which Mr. Tambe has promised to do soon. We hope the rest of the garbage is cleared too soon.”
