More and more residents of satellite city are using the online facility of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) to pay their monthly power bills.

In the last eight months, more than 6 lakh residents (including NMMC area from Digha to Belapur and Cidco area from Kharghar to Panvel) have used the online facility to pay their bills. MSEDCL has so far collected more than Rs105 crore through this mode of payment.

“This is one of the most successful schemes of MSEDCL. Earlier, residents, especially seniors and women, had to stand in long queues to pay their bills. The queue was longer when the cut off date drew closer, however, with the online bill acceptance, the trouble does not exist,” said RS Yadav, a resident of Seawoods.

He added, “For the last few months, MSEDCL has migrated to new payment website.
Once you register, you get monthly bills intimation much before the bill is delivered at your doorstep. Also, after payment, one can save the receipt and he receives an SMS acknowledging payment.”

Asim Kumar, a resident of Kharghar’s sector 12, said, “We do not have to rely on hand delivery of electricity bills. Most of the times, the men employed by the contractor deliver bills after the prompt payment date or due date and we have to pay the penalty for no fault of ours. Now, if we just log on to their website, we get to know the details of our bill.

Moreover, if one has enrolled the bill payment with any of the bill desk partner we receive intimation in the form of email as soon as the bill is generated. So, one can avail the benefits of prompt payment as well.”

Senior citizen RS Kulkarni, from Koparkhairane, said, “Initially, I had enrolled for the electronic clearing system (ECS) for bill payment. However, we had no control over the amount which is debited even if a faulty bill was raised; MSEDCL got it debited since we had mandated them. However, now due to online payment facility we can pay the bills from any where at our leisure.”

MSEDCL official, said, “For collection of monthly bills, MSEDCL has started bill payment kiosks at various offices where people can pay their bills. Also, several self-help groups and women groups have been authorised collection of bills. But we find that most and most of people prefer to make payments through the online mode using credit or debit card or internet banking.”
