Akshay Kudkelwar, won a house in MHADA’s 2015 lottery in Malad’s Malwani area. It’s 2017, and he’s yet to get possession of the flat. He has been paying his EMI for the last eight months. MHADA officials say there are close to 700 people from the 2015 and 2016 lottery who haven’t received Occupation Certificates (OCs), and hence, the delay.

This year’s MHADA lottery is scheduled to be held on November 10.

OCs haven’t been given for 306 flats in Goregaon and 150 flats across Mumbai from the 2016 lottery. As for the 2015 lottery, 185 flats in Mulund and 64 in Malad haven’t received OCs yet.

“I won the flat in the 2015 lottery, but I am yet to receive possession of it. From December 2016, EMI for the flat has started. I have approached MHADA,” said Akshay, a media professional.

Like Akshay, 232 others are facing a similar problem. “Of the 232 affected, MHADA has got OCs for 168, 64 cases including mine are pending,” he added.

Subhash Lakhe, chief officer, Mumbai board, MHADA, said, “We are trying to get OCs for the flats. In Malad, we have got OCs for 168 flats, and we should get them for 64 more within a week, and am hopeful that we will them soon.”
