Over two lakh followers are expected to visit the three-day 47th annual Nirankari Sant Samagam of Maharashtra, which is set to begin today at Cidco ground in sector 29, near central park in Kharghar. This year, the samagam venue has been changed from Patini ground in Airoli to Kharghar.

On the fourth day, after conclusion of the samagam, around 100 couples are expected to tie the nuptial knot in a mass marriage, which is part of social reforms initiated and pursued by the Nirankari mission.

Speaking about the facilities at the samagam venue, Kirpa Sagar, member in charge of media informed that it is through the hard labour of its devotees that they have been able to develop a mini township housing at the venue.

“At the venue, boarding and lodging, medical, free food (langar), transport facilities to and from various railway stations and airport, basic needs of electricity, water, proper sewerage, among other facilities have been arranged,” said Sagar.

Sagar informed the important features of the samagam is to bring unity in diversity, universal brotherhood and oneness of mankind. “Nirankari mission catches the problems by its roots, by dismantling all kinds of walls dividing humanity and bring man closer to man. It encourages everyone to imbibe human values like love, compassion, cooperation and humility, among other things” said Sagar.

Procession from Shil Chowk in Kharghar to the samagam venue is the highlight of day one. On day two, there is a Sewa Dal rally in which mission’s volunteers will renew their pledge to render selfless service to the society.

The concluding day will see a multilingual poetic symposium on the theme Divya Gunon ko Hum Apnayen, Jeevan Bagiyan Ko Mehkayen.

Mass marriage is an important part of the samagam, as around 100 couples tie the knot at the venue. “The mission stresses the need for austerity in the matter of marriages and other social functions. In order to encourage dowry-free marriages, the mission has been organising mass marriages in a big way in various parts of the county from time to time,” added Sagar.

“In Mumbai, it has already become an outstanding feature of the annual samagam itself. Every year we organise mass marriages on the very next day after the samagam concludes. The weddings take place at the samagam venue itself. This time as well, we will be holding the mass marriage function on January 27,” concluded Sagar.
