The bubbling Jat quota controversy and the rioting in Haryana has pushed up flight ticket prices for the New Delhi - Chandigarh routes to up to Rs 99,000.

On last account, a quick search on MakeMyTrip.com threw up only two available flights for those looking to leave Chandigarh and fly to New Delhi, with only three seats available. One of the flights by Jet Airways has listed the five-hour flight with one stop at Rs 99,128. A flight from Chandigarh to the national capital usually takes about an hour.

Agitators in Haryana continued to protest and the situation remained tense in several parts hit by the Jan quota stir, even as security personnel staged flag marches in affected areas. After the protest turned violent, agitators blocked the Delhi-Chandigarh national highway and vandalised a petrol pump in Jind. Normal life has been disrupted and crippled in various districts in Haryana, including Rohtak, Jind, Hisar, Bhiwani, Jhajjar, Sonipat.

Northern Railway has cancelled 527 trains due to the ongoing Jat agitation in Haryana, including 210 express trains and 317 passenger Trains, reportedThe Hindu.

The ongoing stir has also led to a massive water supply shortage to the National capital, prompting Delhi Chief Minister to call an emergency meeting on Saturday and announcing that schools will remain shut on Monday.

Flights from Chandigarh to Mumbai have been listed between Rs 14,041 and Rs 52,632, with the highest price tag by Jet Airways again. Chandigarh to Mumbai have been listed between Rs 14,041 and Rs 52,632, with the highest price tag by Jet Airways again.

Jet Airways later issued a statement:

"Most Jet Airways direct flights to/from Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jammu, Srinagar, Leh and Dehradun have been sold out. Some fares seen on third party online travel portals are constructed by those websites by combining the last available seats on indirect routes with multi-stop flights constructed over any mid-point transfer city to create a roundabout itinerary. In many cases Premiere (business class) cabin fares are shown," a Jet Airways spokesperson said.

"The higher fares that are referred on third party travel portals are the combination of fares over multi-stop flights. These fares are not available on Jet Airways website," he said.

"Such fares will be influenced by the availability of seats on these two different flights and hence will be generally higher than the direct non-stop flights. It is important to note that the journey times on these itineraries referred to are significantly higher than the direct flight," the spokesperson said.

"We are working with third party travel portals to not show such roundabout itineraries with last available Premiere cabin seats," it said.
