India needs to grow at 9-10 % for the next 30 years to lift its vast population out of poverty, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said on Thursday.

"India is growing at 7 % plus. India needs to grow at 9-10 % for the next three decades. Unless we grow at 9-10 % for the next three decades, it will be difficult to lift vast population out of poverty," Kant said at an event here. He also said that although India is a very large country, it can't grow only on the back of domestic market demand.

"South Korea and China grew on back of exports. We need to integrate ourselves with the global supply chain," he said. In the last 68 years it was a nightmare for private businessmen to do business in the country, Kant said, adding that India must make itself most easy place to do business. He listed out initiatives taken by the government in the last two years, and emphasised that the productivity growth is key to India's economic expansion.

Kant observed that although rest of the world is becoming protectionist, "we are opening our economy".
