The property has been attached under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
ED's attachment in the ongoing disproportionate assets case comes close to the heels of the CBI filing a chargesheet in a special court against Singh and his wife. The chargesheet came soon after the Delhi High Court denied him any relief and removed an interim stay on his interrogation or arrest.
According to a PTI copy dated March 31, the chargesheet was filed against nine people including the 82-year-old Congress leader for alleged offences punishable under section 109 (abetment) of Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The family farmhouse attached by the ED was reportedly bought by the CM's son's firm Maple. A probe revealed that black money was used to buy the property. While Rs 1 crore was shown as its market price, Rs 5.47 crore was paid in cash to buy it.
A day after being booked by the CBI special court in the Disproportionate Assets case, the Chief Minister had on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of conspiring against him and asserted that all charges levelled against him were fabricated, a report by PTI said.
It continued, "Averring that the truth would win, Singh said that the saffron party and its leaders were misusing power.
'The fight has just begun and I know the truth will prevail. All cases against me are fabricated. This is a conspiracy against me stitched by some BJP leaders like Prem Kumar Dhumal and Anurag Thakur. The BJP is misusing its power. There's no truth in it,' said Singh".
