The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three middlemen — Sonu Jalan, Jayesh Thakkar and JK Arora — in an on-going investigation of alleged bribery and other offence cases against Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials.
CBI has arrested Sonu Jalan from Mumbai, Jayesh Thakker from Ahmedabad and JK Arora from New Delhi in the illegal gratification case. Further searches conducted at the premises of the accused in Mumbai, Ahmedabad and New Delhi led to the recovery of several incriminating materials and cash worth over a crore rupees.
CBI said, “Two arrested accused will be produced today before the Designated Court at Ahmedabad (Gujarat) and the third after transit remand”.
In May 2015, dna had reported on the ED officials busting a massive IPL match fixing racket and arresting five bookies from Ahmedabad, Delhi Jaipur and Mumbai.
Five months later, in September 2015, the CBI registered a case against JP Singh and other ED officials accusing them of demanding and accepting illegal gratification from the accused and suspects, while investigating the cases of money laundering in betting. The case was registered after ED wrote a letter to CBI seeking investigation against Singh, who was then Joint Director of ED in Ahmedabad, and other officers.
