Movement art
Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts will host an evening of contemporary dance where Diya Naidu and Denny Paul, winners of Robert Bosch Young Choreographer’s Award, will present their solos, Nadir and Uyire. Nadir, to be performed by Diya Naidu, is a contemporary dance, but more focused on the ideas of isolation and emotions of the movement. Uyire, Denny Paul’s performance, is a piece that provides an autobiographical perspective to the relationship between the past and the present. “We are very thankful to Robert Bosch and it feels great to win an award as a young choreographer at this stage. We both are excited and nervous about the show and are eagerly looking forward to put our best for the performance,” say the delighted dancers. The performance is open to the public.

Writer Abhishek Majumdar captures the minds of immigrants through his play Harlesden High Street. The play is set on the High Street in Harlesden in London, an area populated mostly by immigrant communities — Jamaicans, Poles and Pakistanis. Talking about the play, Abhishek says, “The play was conceptualised in 2007. I was in London before, and lived next to Harlesden. There was an old Pakistani lady who lived close by and she taught me a lot of things. I’ve taken the essence from there and have put together the play. The story is very intense and talks about spaces, not just physical, but mental as well.”
