The short film festival Manhattan Short is taking place again this year in over 200 cinemas in 200 cities across six continents including Asia, North and South America, Europe, Australia and Africa.

For the first time, the short film festival will also be screened in Mumbai. However, the details of the venue have to be finalised.

The week-long festival will take place at different venues all over the world during the week of September 26 to October 3, 2010.

Anil Sadarangani, filmmaker and official representative of the festival in Mumbai, says, “Through this festival the exposure that a filmmaker will get is going to be great.

Since the films will be screen at more than 50 venues across the world, it’s a great chance to reach out to the global audience.”

The Manhattan Short receives over 500 short film entries from over 40 countries a year. Twelve of these entries are selected as finalists in the annual festival.

Audiences from around the world unite with other audiences not only to view these films, but to vote on them as well. Past finalists from the festival have won the Oscar award in the short film category.

There are no particular parameters to submit a short film.

However, it should not be of bad quality. “You can imagine the quality of the ideas if the past winners at the festival have won an Oscar.

We are definitely not expecting stuff which is shot on a mobile phone with retarded sound and picture quality. Students can participate too but that have to pay attention to the quality of idea and production,” says Anil.

Deadline for the entries is July 31, 2010. The winner of the festival will be announced on Sunday of October 3 in New York.

Entry forms for the festival can be downloaded at Manhattan Short website.
