The silent National Anthem is the surprise element to the top 10 most watched videos of the year 2011.
Remember the silent rendering of the National Anthem? We’re pretty sure you do. It has been played at cinema theatres all year round. And now the video has made its way to the top 10 popular videos of the year 2011. Centered around the theme ‘Patriotism knows no language’, the video was created by the Mudra Group, and was launched on January 26, 2011, to mark India’s 61st Republic day. Shot in sign language, the silent National Anthem video features children with hearing/speech impairments.
According to the year end surveys by online video forum YouTube, the video had an Indian viewership of 1,150,509 and around 1,300 people commented on the video link on the site.
The official Google India Blog recently carried out an analysis to check on ‘What were we watching the most this year?’ The research spooled back through videos and channels that absorbed collective global attention this year and compiled the list capturing the global view counts of popular videos uploaded throughout this year.
“We’re very proud of the role and impact that the silent National Anthem has had. But honestly, we are pleasantly surprised by the accolades that has been showered on us and the fact that the silent National Anthem is one of the most watched videos online,” says Madhukar Kamath, CEO of the Mudra group. “What is more thrilling is the fact that the rest of the videos in the top 10 category (India) are mostly film related (teasers of Don 2, Ra.One, Agneepath etc), which are hugely promoted. But we didn’t spend a single paisa on promoting our video. The credit goes to the creator Bobby Panwar, the public and the production house,” he adds.
