Superstar Amitabh Bachchan’s health is constantly under the scanner. The actor had undergone multiple surgeries a few months back but he is apparently back to hitting the gym. Big B is constantly updating his fans with details that he is recuperating and before he went in for a routine check up yesterday, he had posted on his account on micro-blogging site Twitter that even though he is in a lot of pain, he doesn’t want to miss out on his daily dose of exercising. “Pain be damned.. I am off to the gym .. If you have to go down, go down in style!!” he had posted.

Health experts say that indulging in a little exercise even when you are down and out is, in fact, a good thing. Obviously, your doctor has to give you the green signal for the same, but there are many options for those wanting to stay fit even when they are ill, say experts. Dr Meghna Joseph, in charge of the physiotherapy department at Kohinoor hospital, says that the best step to getting fit after an illness is to ensure enough rest to regain lost energy. There has to be some kind of routine activity, suggests Meghna adding, “Regular exercises like walking, cycling or swimming can be performed to stay fit.”

Actor Ashmit Patel is a fitness freak and he says that exercise features high on his priority list, even when he is feeling sick. However, he prefers to take it easy. “When I’m ill or down, I refrain from going to the gym and doing weights or any kind of intense workouts. I usually stick to free-hand exercises like push ups and sit ups and also take a steam session,” says the actor, adding that it is important to eat healthy when you are not keeping well. “Eating well helps strengthen the body,” he advises.

At the time of going to press, Sr Bachchan was busy fielding questions about his health and he posted that his visits to the doctor were indeed routine in nature and nothing to worry about.
