From December 3 to 5, MICA’s campus will reverberate to the sounds of a variety of voices, action, music and much more.
The overwhelming response that Sankalp, Mudra Insititue of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA's) theatre club, has received for the one-off competitions they have organised in the last couple of years has given the institution the fillip to go a step ahead and plan a full-fledged theatre festival on their campus during the first week of December.
From December 3 to 5, MICA’s campus will reverberate to the sounds of a variety of voices, action, music and much more. "During the past decade, these shows have been jam-packed. Our first ever three-day theatre festival will run alongside a three-day grand production at Natarani Amphitheatre. There are more than 15 events which are spread over three days, exploring story-telling in all its forms namely, one-act plays, photography, comic strip creation, documentary film making, radio plays, street plays, shadow theatre and much more. Moreover, the festival will have participation from the colleges having best theatre talents across India, including the likes of Delhi University (DU) and IIMs," head of media and public relans for Sankalp, Surabhi Suri said.
Sankalp has themed its first theatre festival as, 'It's all GREEK to me'. Over a decade old now, its flagship event ‘The Final Production’, will celebrate its 11th edition at Natarani in 2011.
“Owing to this reason, Sankalp this year proposes to reach out to a wider audience through its annual production, Mahesh Dattani's 'Thirty Days in September'," Suri added.
Aashish Sharma, member of the organising team said that, "We have been planning and conceptualising for our festival since July and we finally zeroed in on "It's all GREEK to me". Moreover, we have various teams to handle the festival such as script, events, tickets, marketing and so on, thus making it a planned and organised festival from just a three-day play enactment."
Currently, Suri had mentioned that they have already received entries from over 15 colleges and theatre groups all over the the country, including Kirori Mal College from Delhi University, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Indore, Christ College Bangalore, Welingkar from Mumbai, IMI Delhi, Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management from Pune, Gujarat University and DAIICT from Gandhinagar.
