The Chinese Lantern Festival marks the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations. The Chinese regard the Lantern Festival as a time of family gatherings with grand traditional feasts. Many lanterns are made to reflect historical Chinese themes. These lanterns depict scenes from stories and legends that express traditional values.

The coming week will see Pan-Asian restaurant Red Zen at the Courtyard by Marriott celebrate the festival with a traditional Chinese menu. One can feast on the traditional Chinese delicacies infused with sweet and salty flavours.  Furthermore, Chef Praiwan will give you the essence of Chinese culture by cooking his signature dishes on the live station counter. Enjoy the occasion with your family over a special ‘Make your clay pot’ family meal, which is a blend of Oriental flavours and fresh ingredients cooked in a traditional Chinese clay pot.

The multi-course menu has diverse offerings such as Chilly Celery Crunchy Baby Corn in Sichuan style, Shanghai style Black Pepper Mushroom, Shredded Beef with Hot Bean and Shitake Mushroom, Shredded Lamb in Sichuan Pepper Sauce. Chef Praiwan, expat Chef at Red Zen, says, “The Chinese lantern festival marks the Chinese New Year and celebrates one of the most visually appealing festivals in China. Decorated display tables, significant colour red coded crockery, crafted food displays will adorn the decor.”

Other city hotels celebrating this traditional fest includes Taj Lands End and Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel. Chef Surjan Singh Jolly, Executive Chef of Renaissance, says, “Lanterns in China have a very special importance. They signify good luck as they were the only source of light in olden times. People started making huge lanterns to symbolise their economic status. Mostly, the lanterns are red in colour as red signifies victory of the people over the ancient demon. However, we have a special decor this time. The lanterns are white apart from the traditional red, to signify peace and serenity.”

Renaissance boasts of a menu that includes traditional dishes like Deep Fried Crab Meat, Prawn Sole Fish Rolls with Tomato Chili Sauce, Roasted Duck in Hoisin sauce and Earthen Pot Prawn Red Snapper Salmon Rice.
