Rajan Phatak captures the beauty of the Konkan region

Rajan Phatak was supposed to be a psychologist. However, life had other ideas in store for him. After studying psychology, he discovered that art was his calling in life. He was later forced to become a school teacher in order to make ends meet. While he enjoyed teaching, he yearned for time to pursue his passion of art.

Rajan says, “I recently was able to give up my job as a teacher and can now focus on art full time.”

Though Rajan grew up in Mumbai, he escaped to the Konkan coast for all his school vacations. His new exhibition titled Inspirations is a combination of poster colours, oil, acrylic and transparent water colours. The entire series is motivated by the flavours and colours of the Konkan coast. Ranjan explains, “My favourite childhood memories are with my family on the Konkan coast. Even today, I go there with every chance I get.”

Rajan’s paintings capture nature at its best. Lush greenery, azure blue skies, colourful clouds, overflowing waterfalls and flower bearing trees, all induce a feeling of joy. The paintings are abuzz with life, explore colours and are sincere reflections of nature and village life.

Rajan says, “We have become a tense society. If my paintings that demonstrate the natural beauty of the Konkan region attract the common people and reassure their faith in the divine beauty of nature, I shall feel delighted.”
