Leading yoga institute Kaivalyadham has stressed on the need to set up a regulatory body to keep a check on the quality and the standards followed by yoga centres, which are mushrooming across the country and the globe after this ancient discipline gained popularity.

"Today we see lot of yoga institutes coming every where across the world. As this traditional form is gaining popularity, it has become a business for many. Hence it is important to have a regulatory body that would check the standards of yoga taught by them," Kaivalyadham administrator, Subodh Tiwari told PTI on the sidelines of the ongoing international yoga conference here, near Pune.

With a regulatory body coming in, recognition will be given only to those yoga institutes who follow the actual meaning of practicing or teaching yoga and not merely look into it as a business opportunity, Tiwari said.

Once the regulartory body is set up, it must see whether the yoga institutes adhere to the required standards and then give them recognition, he added. The Kaivalyadham centre here, spread across the green 180 acres, houses research departments, a yoga college, a hospital, a healthcare centre, an ashram and a temple.

This oldest yoga institute is holding the sixth international conference on 'Yoga Research and Cultural Synthesis' in a three-day event here. The conference has been organised with an aim to improve the quality of life and invoke spiritual ethos amongst mankind, Tiwari added.
