A city’s soul lies in its people. The people of Bangalore have a class of their own when it comes to redefining extravagance.

Packed with the best brews, the scrumptious cuisines, the liveliest art and music scene, the happening pubs and now, the new hi-speed metro network, the byte basket of India is hip and happening.

Being the youngest of the modern Indian megacities and the second fastest growing one in India, Bangalore is the safest haven for the ever-growing breed of tech professionals. This brings along a fast-growing proportion of ‘Women at work’.

The retail scene in Bangalore has kept pace to cater to this discerning and style-seeking crowd. On one hand, more and more hi-end retail stores with trendy life-style products, both Indian haute couture as well as international brands are emerging. On the other hand, you see exciting, quirky small boutiques showcasing products for the design conscious.

Tanishq has been synonymous with design and life-style, satisfying the grooming needs of today’s modern woman.

Keeping pace with the expanding cityscape,  we  have six exclusive jewellery stores in Bangalore. We have explored and understood what women across the country are wearing to wedding, to work, to parties and generally at home. And have identified how ensembles have grown with times and tastes have matured.

One such insight has led to the creation of ‘Mia’, the jewellery collection for the working women. Mia is a dream come true for millions of working women in India.

Gold, as of now, is still perceived to be for festivals, weddings and special occasions. They are, more often than not, traditional in styling. In this precious space there is hardly anything available in the market that suits office dress code and styling. With gold prices sky rocketing by the day, there is a huge demand for light-weight jewellery.

The deep design story in Mia is based on “the quest” which never ends, an insight derived from the life of working women. The designs in Mia encompasses fine geometry, complexity and textures. Use of floral graphics, abstraction and hint of colours through the use of mother of pearl(MOP) is a key feature here. We have experimented interesting and unique techniques to render gold in a very modern avatar yet extremely light weight and affordable. Technology like electroforming and filigree casting has been used to impart the new look. Mia is high on design quotient and techniques used.

Looking at the trends, on one side is the fascination towards western fashion and music, creating an urge for products that are popular, global and influential. The trend is driven by international music, movies and youth icons and was visible in the recent hype during Lady Gaga and Metallica’s visit. The other trend we see is the strong urge to preserve the essence of our culture, tradition & spirituality. It is a movement of revisiting tradition and contemporising it.

“Change is the only constant in our lives”. Life evolves, lifestyle evolves around it, fashion comes and goes. New growth opportunities open up to those who have a constant eye on the change and that’s just what we do. In 2012, expect the unexpected from Tanishq…
