The childhood home of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, has been sold for £485,000, which is £10,000 less than the guide price.

The house in Bradfield, Berkshire, was bought by teacher Emma Appleby and her partner Tom Wyatt, and both insist they did not buy it for the royal connection.

"We both really loved it, we're delighted," the BBC quoted Appleby as saying.

The late-Victorian four-bedroom house was home to the Middleton family from 1979 until 1995 when Kate was 12.

Auctioneers Dudley Singleton said there had been interest from abroad but the only bids came from people in the UK.

"The family were delighted to win. They wanted a bigger family home and fell in love with the place, rather than having any interest in its royal connections," the auctioneer said.

"They will be living there as their family home, it has not been bought as an investment.

"Just as I hoped it would be, it's a family, just as it was for the Middletons," the auctioneer stated.
