DNA YA!, the 12 page tabloid published every Sunday for young adults, had recently organised the Art Hunt to discover young artists who could be a budding Van Gogh or a Monet or an Andy Warhol. Aimed at seeking the brightest and most creative young artists at the secondary level, the hunt drew participation of more than 20,000 children from various schools. From these, 200 students were short-listed for the semi final round. The team of panellist included artist Brinda Miller, sculptor Arzan Khambhatta, photographer Vikram Bawa, member of NGO Family India Foundation Anna Haydon, and gallerist Tarana Khubchandani of Gallery Art & Soul .

The brief was to be imaginative and innovative with textures such as impressions of leaves, brick wall, a tree trunk etc. Using textures, children could be realistic or abstract with their art works.
Artist Brinda Miller was doing a round of the work that was being created by the children. She says, “Events such as Art Hunt are a good opportunity for many of these children to discover their inner potential early in life. I discovered this potential at a very later stage in life.” Photographer Vikram Bawa adds, “The children are very enthusiastic and very fast with their work. I think it’s really important to approve of their good work because it helps a great deal in building confidence in themselves.”

Sculptor Arzan Khambhatta found some of the ideas of these children to be truly path- breaking. “I could never think of such ideas myself. We need more of such events in the city. It helps in bringing out the thoughts of a child on paper and acts as a cleansing process for the imagination,” he remarks.

About 40 children have been short-listed for the final round. They
will get to choose their area of interest from fine art, sculpture and photography and get a workshop with respective pioneers including Brinda Miller, Arzan Khambatta and Vikram Bawa. The final entries will be displayed in an exhibition at Gallery Art & Soul and later auctioned off for charity.
