Holiday and beachwear designers Shrivan-Narresh are on a roll. Within three years since they launched their first collection at Mumbai fashion week, these young designers from NIFT have now come a long way.

They are now readying to participate at the Miami fashion week to be held from July 16-19. Being the first ones in India to use the Italian bond technique to create their stitch-free beachwear line, they have set their standards straight.

DNA spoke to Narresh of Shrivan-Narresh to find out more.

Talking about their collection that they will showcase at the Miami fashion week, he says, “This will be our spring/summer 2012 line. It is based on German lines and movements — very controlled with a unique blend of geometric designs and colour blocking. A part of the collection is a handcrafted line that we’ve created. The colours we using are non-swimwear shades like ochre, sea green, scarlet, khakis, blues and whites.”

The designers’ swimwear has been sported by celebrities like Fergie (Black Eyed Peas), popstar Nicki Minaj, and supermodel Padma Lakshmi. He says,” It is a serious but celebrity-endorsed market. But luckily we had these celebrities donning our collection and it has worked well for our business. We are young as a brand and still finding our ground here, but it has been a joyful journey.”

Quiz them about India for swimwear market, and Narresh adds, “When we started people called us fools to venture into this space and said it’s a wrong place to start, but frankly we’re doing quite well. We know India is not exactly a market for swimsuits like Europe, Brazil or United states. But we are surrounded by coastline on all three sides. We are not the kind of brand that says swimsuits are sleaze, swimsuits are sexy or swimsuits are skimpy. Our idea is that swimsuits should be elegant and for everyone.”
