It was a sheer treat to watch children moving their nimble fingers to make pots, statues, masks and puppets and then learn a few steps from ace choreographer, Sandip Soparrkar.
The Catalyst for Social Action (CSA), a city-based NGO, organised a summer camp for institutionalised destitute children on Friday at the  Udyan Mangal Karyalaya in Sadashiv Peth.

The CSA works on quality care for the institutionalised destitute children with main focus on adoption. The NGO was founded in 2002 with a vision to provide a family for every child in India.
There were a total of 150 children from boys and girls observation homes in Pune and Jeevan Shanti Niketan in Mumbai.

“Our aim is to find homes for destitute children and also care for children who do not get adopted. We provide vocational training, quality education, recreation, proper nutrition and better living conditions for these children. The children are also taught various skills like art and craft, tailoring and pottery to make them self-reliant,” said Bharati Dasgupta, managing trustee and founder member of CSA.

The highlight of the summer camp was choreographer Sandip Soparrkar dancing with the tiny tots. He choreographed a dance sequence for the kids who were overjoyed to dance with the dance master.

Prasad Mali, a dance trainer at the CSA, ensured that the children followed the steps correctly. “It feels wonderful to be a part of this initiative. Dancing sessions can boost their confidence and also make their summer vacations enjoyable. I enjoyed shaking a leg with them,” said Soparrkar.

Dheeraj Chavan, a 10-year-old boy from the boys’ observation home in Shivajinagar, was excited to see Soparrkar and learnt some steps from him.

Twelve-year-old Apoorva Jagtap said, “We learnt a few steps from Sandip sir and it was fun to dance with him.”  The camp was supported by Ragini Events, which conducted various activities for children throughout the day.
